How a vehicle actually gets released

The four-link clearance chain.

Every vehicle sitting at the port is held up by one of these four links. We check all four directly with the port — not the broker — before anything gets scheduled.

i

We never schedule a pickup before all four links confirm clear. If something's holding your vehicle, we tell you exactly which link it is and what needs to happen — straight from the port's own system, not a broker's assumption.

🚗

Private Importers & Exporters

Individuals, dealers, and small importers/exporters who need the process explained clearly and handled completely, start to finish.

A Common Source of Confusion

The port has the final say. The broker doesn't.

Brokers often tell clients a vehicle is "cleared" when it isn't — not out of dishonesty, but because they simply can't see what the port can see.

What a broker knows

  • Only what the steamship line happens to tell them
  • May guess or assume clearance status
  • No direct visibility into port-level holds or fees
VS

What the port knows

  • Actual vessel clearance status, straight from their system
  • Actual customs clearance status, confirmed directly
  • Final say on every release — no exceptions, no guessing
The One Field That Stops Everything

Wrong name on the delivery order? The port won't release your car.

Almost every delivery order arrives with the wrong name in the "Local Delivery or Transfer By" field — a broker, the customer's own name, "Self Pickup," or it's just left blank.

Before any vehicle can come out of the gate, that field has to read Ship2Shore Booking. As your consignee, we correct it the moment you hire us — no extra step on your end.

Common Questions

Frequently asked.

Our rates are straightforward. TWIC Vehicle Escort (pickup, delivery, or extraction) is $85. Hotshot urgent delivery is $200. Semi load/unload and container service is $325. No hidden fees — what you see is what you pay.
No — that's exactly why we exist. A TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) is a federal ID required to enter secured port facilities. Most vehicle owners, dealers, and even many truckers don't have one. We're TWIC-credentialed, so we go in for you.
Unfortunately no. Port security requires a valid TWIC card for entry into secured areas. Our service is specifically designed for clients who don't have port access — we handle everything inside and meet you at the gate.
We operate at Port of Long Beach, Port of Wilmington (California), and Port of Matson. If your vehicle is at one of these ports, we can help. Not sure which port? Check your Bill of Lading (B/L) or contact your shipping company.
We need your Bill of Lading (B/L) number, vessel name, VIN, and a signed Delivery Order form authorizing Ship2Shore to pick up the vehicle on your behalf. We'll send you the form as soon as you book.
Reach out directly and let's talk. For transportation companies or brokers with recurring volume, we're happy to discuss pricing. Call or text Shawn at (310) 748-0040.
Our standard rates apply for all jobs including same-day. Hotshot service at $200 is specifically for urgent priority deliveries. Call us and we'll let you know availability.
Port of Long Beach is an appointment pier — Ship2Shore gives the port 24 hours' advance notice before every pickup and drop-off. We handle scheduling the appointment directly with the port; Calendly alone doesn't create it.
We take 4 photos (front, back, both sides) and a full walkaround video outside the gate, with you present for your own inspection. You sign off on the delivery order confirming condition, then payment is collected the same day.
The port won't release a vehicle unless the "Local Delivery or Transfer By" field on the delivery order names the party actually picking it up. Most delivery orders arrive blank, or with a broker's name, your name, or "Self Pickup" — none of which the port will accept for an escorted release. As your consignee, we correct that field to read Ship2Shore Booking the moment you hire us. No extra paperwork on your end.
No — Port of Wilmington (California) is closed every Wednesday. We schedule all Wilmington jobs Thursday through Tuesday. Port of Long Beach and Port of Matson remain open daily.
Ready When You Are

Your only contact is Ship2Shore.

You don't call the port. You don't chase a broker. Book your appointment or call Shawn directly — we'll take it from there, start to finish.
